VA Aid and Attendance Financial Assistance Meeting

There is a little known program called Aid And Attendance administered by the VA that offers financial assistance for in-home care to war-time veterans, their spouses, widows or widowers who require assistance in their home, assisted-living or nursing home. These funds are available whether the care is provided by a professional or a family member. Eligible recipients receive up to $1,700 per month.
John McCallag, a financial benefits expert, is conducting an informational meeting:

Presented by: McCallag will help individuals determine eligibility and will also offer assistance working through a cumbersome application process.

Who is Eligible: War-time veterans, their spouses, widows or widowers who are 65 or over *

Attendees are asked to come to the event with their spouse or care giver. If the individual seeking Aid and Attendance is unable to attend, a family member or care giver can attend on the individual’s behalf. There is no cost for attending or for the application assistance offered by John McCallag.

Resume Review and Job Search Seminar

On December 5^th, the Vineyard Christian Church of Crystal Lake will be hosting its second free job search seminar and resume workshop. This time, in addition to Tom Siciliano, author of Shifting into a Higher Gear: An Owner’s Manual for Uniting Your Calling and Your Career and Rich Rostron, owner of OnTarget Resumes, Pat Kampert former Chicago Tribune editor and reporter will speak.

The first event, three months ago, featured the first two speakers who will again present similar material. Rostron spoke on some common mistakes that hinder resumes. He and a team of his fellow resume professionals then provided free resume reviews for those that signed up for it. Similar service will be provided this time around.

Siciliano spoke about the hidden job market, those positions that have not been posted yet or possibly not even identified. His talk was informative about what is happening in the job market that is not obvious at a glance. He then offered strategies on how to penetrate the market and join the companies at the top of your list. This session will feature many similar tips on how to earn the interview and then win the job.

Kampert will speak on the power of your story. This will help focus on what is unique about you that makes you a valid candidate for the position for which you are applying.

The event will take place at the Country Inn and Suites, 600 Tracy Trail in Crystal Lake, IL. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with free continental breakfast and the opportunity to network. Further networking will take place through out the morning. Resume reviews will be limited, so arrive early in order to reserve a spot.
